Tips for Watching the Parade & Military Review Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2)

In 2025, the whole country joyfully celebrates the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution’s success (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and National Day (September 2) – a grand and historic event held in Hanoi, the Capital, with large-scale parades and military reviews. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people and visitors to directly experience the proud historic atmosphere.
If you also plan to join, here are some helpful tips I gathered after attending the first rehearsal – they’ll surely make your experience more complete.

Transportation – Metro Is the Best Option

  • Use public transportation such as metro or buses to avoid traffic jams.
  • The metro is the most convenient choice: fast, hassle-free, and stops right at Cat Linh station. From there, it’s just a short walk to Hung Vuong Street.
  • Important tip: Buy your return ticket in advance. Otherwise, you’ll have to queue for a long time after the parade.
  • Taxis or ride-hailing services are nearly impossible due to roadblocks and heavy congestion.

Timing – Secure Your Spot Early

  • For evening shows: arrive in the morning or early afternoon.
  • For morning shows: you’ll need someone to reserve a spot from the night before.
  • After 5–6 PM, security forces will clear the road, and latecomers won’t be allowed into the central area.

👉 Hard-earned lesson: If you don’t reserve early, it’s almost impossible to get a good view

Best Viewing Spots
Hung Vuong Street (especially at intersections):

From these points, you can fully enjoy:

  • Hung Vuong – Tran Phu
  • Hung Vuong – Hang Chao
  • Hung Vuong – Nguyen Thai Hoc
  • Troop marches
  • Tanks and military vehicles
  • Large-scale parade formations

Nguyen Thai Hoc Street is also an option but with limited visibility (no view of motorized vehicles).

Food & Essentials

  • Bring snacks and drinks as if you’re going on a picnic.
  • Once seated, it’s nearly impossible to leave and come back.
  • Please keep the place clean and collect your trash to help maintain a positive image.

Restrooms – Prepare in Advance

  • Go to public restrooms or nearby cafés/restaurants before security clears the area.
  • Once inside the viewing spot, you won’t be able to go out and return.
  • This is a minor drawback of the experience, which is why some even joke that “the safest solution is… diapers.”

Things to Bring

  • Fully charged phone + power bank.
  • Handheld electric fan – a lifesaver in the summer heat.
  • For kids: bring books, comics, or small toys to keep them occupied.
  • And most importantly: a cheerful, patient spirit to truly enjoy the historic atmosphere.

Attending the parade and military review for the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day is not only an exciting experience but also a way to honor history with pride. With proper preparation for transportation, timing, and personal items, you’ll surely enjoy unforgettable moments in the sacred, heroic atmosphere of Hanoi’s capital.
